Resume - What must always go in and what can never go in

本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛Resume - What must always go in

Name
It is not required to place Mr., Ms., Miss, or Mrs. before your name unless your first name can easily be used for members of either sex.

Address
Always give your complete address.

Telephone Number
Always include your telephone number. Featuring your daytime contact number allows prospective employers to reach you at a time of their convenience.

Job Objective (Position Desired, Job Objective, Objective, Employment Objective)
You do need an objective, but it needn't fit the traditional definition. The best resumes have objectives written in broad, nonspecific terms.

Employment Dates
With a steady work history and no employment gaps: January 11, 1997 to July 4, 1998 or January 1997-July 1998
If there are short employment gaps: 1997-1998 instead of December 12, 1997-January 23, 1998

Company Name
There is no need to include street address or telephone number of past or present employers.
It's quite all right to abbreviate words like Corporation (Corp.), Company (Co.), Limited (Ltd.) or Division (Div.).

Responsibilities

Endorsements
Such endorsements become especially effective when the responsibilities have been qualified with facts, bumbers, and percentages.

Accreditation and Licenses
Be sure to list everything necessary.

Professional Affiliations
Give serious consideration to joining one of the industry's professional associations.

Publications and Patents
Such achievements, if they appear, are usually found at the end of the best resumes.

Languages
If you are fluenet in or understand a foreign language, mention it.

Education
Education history is normally listed whenever it helps.

Professional Training
Under the educational heading on smart resumes, you will often see a section for continuing professional educatoin, focusing of special courses and seminars attended.

Summer and Part-time Employment
This should only be included when the resume writer is either just entering the work force or re-entering it after a substantial absence.

Resume - What can never go in

Titles: Resume, Fact Sheet, Curriculum Vitae, etc.
Never us any of these variations on a theme as a heading.

Availability
Saying anything about your availability for employment on a resume is another redundancy.

Reason for leaving
The topic is always covered during an interview anyway.

References
It's inappropriate and unprofesional to list the names of references on a resume.

Written testimonials
Even worse than listing references on a resume is to attach a bunch of written testimoniaals.

Salary
Leave out all references to salary, past and present.

Abbreviations
Avoid abbreviations.

Jargon
Keep those nontechnical resume screeners in mind.

Charts and Graphs
They make poor use of the space available on a resume and they don't help the reader.

Mention of age, race, religion, sex, national origin
Leave out any reference to any of these areas in resume.

Photographs
If you are looking for a job in the 1950s, include one; if not, don't.

Health/physical description
Who cares?

Early background
Never do it.

Weaknesses
Any weakness, lack of qualifications or information likely to be detrimental to your cause should always be canned.

Demands
Don't outline what you feel an employer is expected to give or to provide.

Exaggerations
Avoid verifiable exaggerations o fyour skills, accomplishments, and educational qualifications.

Resume - Judgment calls

Whether to indude them will depend on professional circumstance.

Summary
