Resume - The Proofreading Checklist

本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛Contact Information

-Is the pertinent personal data--name, address, and personal telephone number correct? (Later, when the resume is typed or printed, you will want to make sure that this personal data is on every page.)
-Is your business number omitted unless it is absolutely necessary and safe to include it?

Objectives

-Does your objective briefly state your goals without getting too specific and ruling you out of consideration for many jobs?
-If you gave a detailed objective (up to--but no more than--two sentences), does it focus on what you can bring to the employer, rather than what you want from the employer?
-Is your stated objective supported by the facts and accomplishments stated in the rest of your resume?

Summary

-If you choose to include a summary, is it no more than two or three sentences long?
-Does it include at least one substantial accomplishment that supports your employment goals?
-Does it include reference to some of your personality or behavioral traits that are critical to success in your field?

Body of Resume

-Is your most relevant and qualifying work experience prioritized throughout the resume to lend strength to your application
-Have you avoided wasting space with employer names and addresses
-Have you been suitably discreet with the name of your current employer?
-Have you omitted any reference to reasons for leaving a particular job?
-Have you removed all references to past, current or desired salaries?
-Have you removed references to your date of availability?

Education

-Is education placed in the appropriate section? (It should be at the beginning of the resume if you have little work experience; at the end if you are established in your field and your practical experience now outweighs your degree.)
-Is your highest educational attainment shown first?
-Have you included professional courses that support your candidacy?

Chronology

-If you've done a chronological resume, is your work history stated in reverse chronological order, with the most recent employment coming at the head of the resume?
-Within this reverse chronology, does each company history start with the details of your most senior position?
-Have you avoided listing irrelevant responsibilities or job titles?
-Does your resume emphasize the contributions, achievements, and problems you have successfully solved during your career?
-Is this content made prominent by underlining, bolding, italicizing, etc.?
-Does the body copy include at least one, and possibly two or three, laudatory third-party endorsement of your work?
-Have you avoided poor focus by eliminating all extraneous information? (This category includes anything that doesn't relate to your job objective, such as captaining the tiddlywinks team in the kindergarten.)
-Have you included any volunteer or community service activities that can lend strength to your candidacy?
-Is the whole thing long enough to whet the reader's appetitefor more details, yet short enough not to satisfy that hunger?
-Have you left out lists of references (if, of course, there is nothing more valuable to fill up the space)?
-Have you avoided treating your reader list a fool by highlighting the obvious (i.e., heading your resume, "RESUME")?

Writing Style

-Have you substituted short words for long words? And one word where previously there were two?
-Is your average sentence ten to twenty words? Have you made sure that any sentence of more than twenty words is shortened or broken into two sentences?
-Have you kept every paragraph under five lines, with many paragraphs considerably shorter?
-Do your sentences begin, wherever possible, with powerful action verbs and phrases?
-If you are in a technical field, have you weeded out as much of the jargon as possible.更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
