The best CO-OP program in Toronto, even in Canada.

本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛First of all, I have to say that I got a professinal job in government with this program. In fact, I got 3 offers(two of them are from other companies) in 3 days before I finished my 4-month internship.
This program has two advantages over the other CO-OP program:
1. After you become an intern, you can get $1500 per month as stipend.
2. The host organizations in this program are some big organizations, such as:
Company: IBM, BELL, P & G, Motorola……
Bank: CIBC, TD, BMO……
College: Seneca, Humber ……
Government: City of Toronto, City of Markham……
For the list of their host organizations, you can visit their website: www.CareerBridge.ca
As a new comer, we have no way to approach to those big organizations before. Now this program provides us such a way working with them and chances are you might get an offer from them after you finish your internship. Actually, I attended the first phase program with 51 positions. After the internship, 17 interns got offers and 33 interns got extension with their internship from 3 to 8 months.
To attend the program, you have to register on their website and pass an english test with reading, writing, listening and speaking. You have to read an article in terms of this program and write something based on that, and then you have the chance to talk with their consultant and listen to some piece of CBC news regarding the program and answer some questions. Don’t worry about that, I’m only LINC 4 level. If you pass the test, you can get a password to approach some intern opportunities posted on their website. If you find the intern suitable for you, you can apply for it with the website. After you pass the interview from the host organization, you would be an intern and you can attend a special workshop intruducing Canadian work environment. It is fairly helpful.
My background is IT and I have landed Toronto over 1 year. Before I attended this program I did the same way as the others to hunt a job. Even I went to some training school (such as the new concept school etc.) to take some courses hoping to get some refrence, but in fact, after I paid lots of money, I realized it’s useless and I would be a loser. I’ve got some interviews from agencies or companies, but I failed with all of them. I don’t know the reasons but I guess that’s due to my English., my Chinese style English. By chance and fortunatelly, I attended the program, passed the tested and the interview. Only after 2-3 months working with a totally english environment, I felt I was much more confident than before. Because I was not sure if I could get a position at my host organization, so I started sending resume outside to apply for some positions. Finally, I got two interviews and led to two offers in two days. At the third day, I got another offer, what I’m doing now, from my host organization. Based on my experience, for new comers, the most important issues for jot-hunting are:
1.Canadian work experience working with an organization or company with good reputation
2. English skills
3. Technical skills更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net

    • Thank you. It is very good article.
      • I just registered, should I evaluate my degree now? What is best time to do the evaluation. I don't want lose money cause no response or opportunities.
      • could u tell me the address of this company?
    • 你好,请问这里有技术培训吗?如果我对某个IT技术一窍不通,是不是应该先去training school (such as the new concept school etc.) 学习,再去你推荐的这个地方呢?
      • I don't think you can learn some tech from those training school.
You can only learn some rough idea from them, which you can get from internet easily. You'd better learn it by yourself getting the materials from internet.
    • I applied it few days ago, at the end, a community counselling & employment services centre called me back and booked an appointment with me. I'm confused now. Can you give me some detail about your case? thanks.
      • What kind of details do you want? I have writen the details above. I said you have to pass their english test. Maybe that's the interview you said.
        • thanks. I just confused , it's the employment service centre that called me back. maybe you are right. just try it. hope get good luck
          • Maybe that's ACCES, both of ACCES and CareerBridge belong to the same organization named Career Edge. You will do your test at ACCES.
            • You are right, it's ACCES. I got the appointment at this friday morning. just want to check with you, Is the test very difficult? I haven't writen english for few years.
              • Don't worry about that. It's very easy.
      • could u tell me where and how to apply it? thx a lot
        • At their website
    • I just registered this program. in the requirement, it says, you need to have your degree assessed by WES(i am not sure this is the right spelling ) do you know where it is?
      • You can send them the copy of your degree certification.
        • so,that means before you register the program you must have your degree assessed by WES, right ? did you do it?
        • What kind of assessment does this programm ask for? Course-by-Course evaluation or just degree certificate evaluation? Thanks a lot.
        • Just degree certificate evaluation.
        • after I passed the english test, I got a coupon from them. That means I got a free degree evaluation. Maybe it changes now and you have to get you degree evaluation in advance. I'm not sure. You'd better ask them.
    • i find these from their website.......
Career Edge internships are open to graduates of university, college or high school wishing to spend six, nine or twelve months gaining career experience with an established Canadian organization.

All of u guys go to school at canada? and i still can't find where to sign in for new register user.......:(
      • You visited the wrong website. I told you it's www.CareerBridge.ca, not www.CareerEdge.ca. They have 3 programs for different people.
        • Thanks for your share. I have already participated the Mississauga Dufferin-Peel Co-op, can I apply for it?
          • I think you can unless you have got some local professional work experience.
            • thanks a lot.
            • Thanks for sharing this goog experience. I have a question: Do we need to pay for this inter opportunity? I saw these were some price on that website. Thanks.
            • What kind of price?
    • Thanks for share! The program you said is for the new immigrant. Do you know any similar program for the new graduate student of Canadian University? Thanks a lot.
      • similar program called CareerEdge. they have intern opportunities, esp. for accounting and IT.
        • Thx. :)
        • Has anyone registered for this program?
    • Good Experince....
    • I just registered, should I evaluate my degree now? What is best time to do the evaluation. I don't want lose money cause no response or opportunities
      • Seems that the evaluation will take several days, but WES is faster than U of T. BTW, Nobody can garantee you can get intern opportunity, so what you can do is up to you.
      • This morning I just talked with the ACCES guy, He told me that he had more than 400 people to interview now. so it's tough again. He even don't ask me to test english skill.
        • would you please tell me if you brought the Education Evaluation Report with you when you met the guy this morning , thanks
          ruti
    • Do you need to pay this program? That is what I most worry about
      • no
    • Please read this article carefully and read some related info carefully on their website and then ask questions.
      • I read the website the price for 6 month program for new graduate is $13803(including fee,GST), please click it and take a look. http://overview.careeredge.ca/docs/AllProgramPrices-LOGOS-04May.pdf
        • please read carefully, As I know, this program is free, but they will charge the company who give you the chance of intern work.
          • It's said that the stipend is $1667, but mine is $1967, ???
    • thank you very much for your information. I get an pre-screen interview in Aug. I registered with them one month ago.
I read your anticle again and again. You mentioned after passing interview with host organizing, there will be a workshop for canadian work environment.
Do you know how long the workshop will take?

I am now working with a company, but not in my field. I don't want to quit the job before I get internship. So I am wondering how long the workshop takes?
      • how long is the workshop

        • I found on the web site, the CareerBridge registration has been stoped. Why will you go interview on Aug?
          • register was stoped at June 30 due to Careerbridge got too many applicants.
    • do they accept people who has already finished another co-op program? If they don't, can I lie?
      • Go Ahead.
    • If I get a permanent or contract job, can I terminate a internship?
      • No problem.

    • Hi,sunny2008, Did you have your instership manager as your reference when you applied for the other 2 jobs?
I have been in internship for 1.5 month. I am considering if I should continue applying for jobs. I want to add this intership experience into my resume, but I don't think it's a good idea to let my present internship manager know that I am seeking other job opportunities because it seems that I have some opportunities to be left in this company. How will I do? Thanks.
      • Yes, but I applied for the other jobs starting at the last month of my internship.
