Go to a library and ask to see Comsumer Report(Oct or Nov issue?). It has detailed ranking of many of the models.　I remember that Canon A95 and Oympuss(?) ranked much higher.

All such point-and-shoot models has the shutter delay problem; if it's a concern, go for DSLR(with $$$$).
In my opinion, never touch Minolta, which was touted as a famous model in the Chinese magzines. I got the wrong impression and spent half of a years insome to buy a film SLR many years ago. The pic quality is good, but the reliability is terrible(broke the same day; replaced. Shutter broke again just a few years and less than 40 films later). After buying this junk SLR, also bought a for-dummy type from this brand in HK. This time the image quality is below average(somewhat over expose in the central area).
The company was almost bankrupted a few years ago and was bought by another company(?).
