本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛My family love dogs so much, and we had 3 dogs before in China, and now I had two dogs in Canada: Boston Terrier (Femail, 3 years old) and Pug (Male, 1 year old), they will "marry" at the end of this year, and that means I will have lots of new baby dogs in this family. You should ask yourself on some questions before you decide to have a dog :
1) Do you have time to spend with your dogs? They like kids need lots of attentions. When they are younger than 1 year, they love to play with you, follow with you and bring the toys in front of you when you are at home. You also need consider to bring a dog out for PP during the day if you can. Most of people here just leave the dog at home for whole day.
2) Did your place allow to have a dog, and do they have size limitation on the dogs?
3) Will you like to bring your dog out for a walk everyday, or three time per week, or at least twice per week including the winter.
4) Who will take care of your dog if you have vacation trip out of Canada? I usually leave my dog to the dog care for one to two months when I back China. Some farm place also take care of dogs for lower cost. and they will feed the dog and walk with them sometime. You also need to consider where they will go in case you decide to leave Canada to other county.
5) How much money you want spend on your dog if he/she is sick some day? The medicine treatments for dog is expensive in Cananda. For example, you probably need to pay $60 for each time when you bring your dog to see the vet, or more $ for the medicine later. And don't forget there are alwasy some risks in the life for your dogs. For example, I just paid $3000 for one of my dog in the past two weeks. Below is the whole story: My dog was flighting with a wilde cat who came into our yard two weeks ago, and just one second one flight the cat scratch my dog face and hurt my baby;'s eye....I have to bring her to see the vet and get some medicine ($180), then transfer to the animal eye speialist in an animal hospital for check ($100)... was told to be kept the dog in their hospital for 3 days ($790)....and was told have to do the eye operator ASAP ($1900) ....after that there are so many medicine and drops.....and I have to bring her back to see the vet every week ($100 each time).....totol cost is $3000 so far. And the doctor suppose to take off the line which seal the eye on my baby yesterday when I brough her back for check...than he decide to do it after two weeks...I think they really want to make as much as possible of money on each dog.
