* It will have 9 point AF system (same "diamond" pattern layout as EOS 30D)
* It will have a large LCD (possibly 3"), Spot meter, Picture modes etc as found in EOS 30D
* ISO will be displayed in the viewfinder
* The Canon EOS 40D will have a dedicated "picture styles" button
* The EOS 40D 10MP sensor. I'd expect to a 10 to 10.5MP sensor in the EOS 40D. It could be 12MP, but that's unlikely, since the 1D Mk III only has 10MP and the EOS 5D is 12MP. A 12MP EOS 40D could possibly affect sales of more expensive models.
* It would be nice if the EOS 40D used the 14-bit A/D from the 1D MKIII for more dynamic range - and that may well be possible. The Digic III processor (see below) may be able to handle the higher data load.
* The new EOS 40D sensor may be based on the technology used in that of the 1D MkIII sensor which has a better capture ratio than earlier sensors due to an optimized pixel design.
* The EOS 40D will stick with an APS-C sensor. To maintain the upgrade path from the XTi and 30D, staying with the EF-S lens mount seems inevitable, which means APS-C
* The self cleaning sensor features of the XTi will be used in the EOS 40D. They may not work perfectly, but they can help a little.
* "Live view" is a possibility. The EOS 20Da had it and the 1D MkIII has it. It's something few DSLRs have, some consumers want and is mainly a firmware feature. Canon obviously have the technology to do it and I doubt that the cost is high. All the development has been done and it would be a "unique feature" for the EOS 40D in the price range for APS-C DSLRs. It's not quite like the live LCD view of P&S digicams, but that may not matter.
* Though I'd really love to see image stabilization in the body, I really don't think Canon are ready to do that yet. They have too much invested in IS lenses. Right now Nikon doesn't have IS in the body. Sony and Pentax do, but I'm not sure they represent too much competition for Canon.
* Noise levels pf the EOS 40D should be equal to or lower than the 30D with the same ISO 100 - 1600 + "H" (3200) range. Canon have never released a DSLR with higher noise levels than the model it was replacing, despite increses in pixel count.
* The EOS 40D will likely use a single Digic III processor (the 1Ds MkIII uses two). I'd expect this because Canon are now using the Digic III even in their digicams. It may help lower noise a little and speed up camera operation.
* I don't think the EOS 40D will have ECF (eye controlled focus).
* I don't think that the EOS 40D will be weathersealed. I suspectthat full weathersealing (all buttons, doors and dials sealed, gasket on the lens mount) will stay a "pro" feature, though it's possible the 40D might have some degree of better sealing than the 30D. I don't think it's possible (it's certainly not easy) to fully weatherseal a camera with a popup flash
* The EOS 40D will still use Compact Flash rather than going to SD(HC) cards.
* The same 5fps frame rate as the 20D/30D. No real need to go faster even if they could. Note that some current rumors are suggesting that the maximum frame rate on the EOS 40D will be in the 6-6.5 fps range. I'd say this is certainly possible and I wouldn't be too surprised to see it.
* We will see a larger buffer for both JPEG and RAW files. New models always have a larger buffer!
* A price for the Canon EOS 40D in the $1400 range, +/- $100. The Nikon D200 is selling for $1500 and I'd expect Canon to try to match Nikon on features and certainly under cut them on pricing. It's my guess that $1300 is more likely than $1500.更多精彩文章及讨论，请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net

    • 400D是入门单反，30D是准专业单反，两个不是一个档次的东西。30D由于现在要换代，很多地方有好deal，1200这个不算好，国内已经买到6500一下了（不过只有一个头）。最后，ebay上买东西还是要take risk的，一定找卖家信用高的。 -bigqi(闲丸); 2007-8-18 (#3878232@0)
