...在99年我刚来得一年，见过一个生活很困难得老太太。Living on her own..One of my friend provided some help to her once a week.... 但她就是坚决不要welfare。 I was very surprised... I heard wonderful stories about new immigrants or poor people living a happy life with government welfare... I ased why? She said she just did not need it as she could still move and do things on her own - seems like she would lose her honor by even ask for it...In my mind, welfare is a different thing than charity and she should ask for it as it was provided by tax payers.. I guess just different people has different way of living and has different honor system...hope the day will never come when there will be special checks for Chinses going for food banks....anyway, hope everyone has a wonderful holiday...
