2) DV, fist of all, it's V--video. forget about the still picture function, that's junk. go & get another DC if you really need that function.
3) Brand? or "price value ratio"? ---- personally, DV is a mature Tech. do not buy something expensive(unless you are rich enough).
btw, i bought one Panasonic DV400/(1) 1.5 year ago, good enough for me, but feel it's kinda ugly now......too big. quality is good. i would like to give you some sample, but those clips are compressed for suiting Internet transport by me i believe.....anyway check the link try to find out some video clip i made, hope it could help
