Xxxxxxxx Xxx, a 37 years old mother of 2 lived in Mississauga, Ontario killed herself on June 2nd, 2009 after engagement with Peel Region Child’s Aids Society (CAS).

What exactly happened between CAS and Xxx remained unknown, as the devastating father struggled to raise 2 boys left behind by the mother.

Messages from the family’s close friends showed in April 2009, the mother encountered with CAS worker(s) in a local clinic, where she had been trying desperately to get help for her 22 month’s younger son. It was said that the CAS worker(s) had followed her over 36 hours, after receiving a call from a doctor’s office saying the mother’s behaviour was “suspicious”. Details of what happened in the clinic remained unknown. At the end of the day the 22 months baby was taken away by CAS without informing the child’s father.

Xxx was given an appointment for mental health assessment one week later. Feared that her 4 year old autistic child could also be taken away, she fled to the United Kingdom the second day with the older child.

The younger baby was returned to the father as soon as Xxx left the country. However Xxx was unable to live in peace longer before coming back to her Mississauga home, where she committed suicide on the third night after returning to this country.

It was strongly believed that Xxx had been a good mother for years before she was declared incapable of taking care of her children. A lot of people in her community believed that her mental trouble that eventually took away her life was triggered by the rough actions taken by CAS. Xxx might have over concerned with her younger son’s health and safety after taking care of an autistic son for nearly 4 years, but never did she intend to hurt or pose any risk to her children. She was also a happy mom. Even the CAS workers visited her funeral admitted that her big smile was unforgettable.

Questioned by reporter from a local Chinese newspaper, Lucie Baistrocchi, director of public relations from CAS in Peel Region declined to comment on this particular case which had a life loss. The extremely sadness behind this story had broken many immigrants’ heart. I’m wondering if more media coverage from CBC could bring the Peel Region CAS in front of the public with more explanation.

Thank you in advance for your attention. Any help is great appreciated.更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net

    • My 2 cents suggestion:
replace "I’m wondering if more media coverage from CBC could bring the Peel Region CAS in front of the public with more explanation. " with the following:

"I demand Minister of Children and Youth Services to launch a public inquiry to investiage the causes of this casualty and how CAS and our government can avoid such disaster in future."

I hope oldyou doesn't mind I changed his email.
    • 说明一下。这不是老油送出的最后版本。
      • 谢谢。最后的版本增加了向死者家属表示哀悼、内部调查、或者公众调查的内容。因为最初跟CBC的联络是on-line的,没有留在我的邮箱里。
    • 刚刚看过在Care 2上的petition,签名好像很简单啊。不愿意显示姓名的,还可以隐藏。看来凑够1 万个,不会太难。想想加拿大有占人口比例4%的中国人,而大部分中国人都喜欢上网,在各个论坛上发个链接及故事内容,我想大部分人是会签名的。
      • 这是那个链接。我们可以自己做个 关于此次事件的 petition。
        • ^
    • Good job. 想个办法绕开真实姓名的困扰比如用MRS WANG, Y. LIU 之类的,代替XXX,XX,不能象HKCHAN那样什么都按部就班取得他们家的同意,那就黄花菜了(能马上争取到当然是好)
      另外,看能否说明此事对华人COMMUNITY 的影响,对CAS的负面影响(可尽可能往大说), 免得又是一个"特殊个案",是"沟通问题",是"Culture shock", 没有什么价值;

      此事不能拖..最理想是得到那丈夫的默认或支持,或和他们家认识的人的配合.
      • 是啊。大家的热情又能持续多久呢
