    • So only lawsuits will force them to realize that it's serious!
      • It's because they know what they've published is just bull-shit. They just can not explain it in a consistent way without being politically-incorrect. Keep up grilling these racists! They have no place under the sunshine!
        • Since kids are talking about some schools being "Too Asian", therefore it is ok for Maclean's to talk about this, and publish that article. She is NOT apologetic, and is taking a hard-line on this.
          • OMG, still people have such doubts! Did you notice that it missed something? What did the 'Asian students' say? The article is biased, selectively picked racially biased comments. By this, the article is actually promoting the racially biased idea!
本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛it's literally a propaganda! These people are working in the media, who are professionally trained to influence, they are smart to twist and mix things in the article so to some unsuspecting readers they are neutral. I suggest you read it again, carefully understand what's behind each paragraph. You will notice that how dis-organized and contradicting the article is, it's rather ill executed, even from the stand point of the authors. Unfortunately still some people were manipulated and weren't judgmental enough, thus missed the real point.

Also, you might refer to comments on National Post:

And another reader Henry's comment on Macleans (BTW, he is a jewish):

This article is the worst kind of racist attack.

If you think that Universities in Canada, or some of them at least, are becoming too "academic" at the expense of social interaction and having a "fun" University experience, then why don't you actually write about THAT.

How dare you assault and target Canadians of Asian heritage.

I'm not a Canadian Asian person, I'm a Canadian Jewish guy. I was truly horrified by what I read. The title alone is grotesque. There are so many problems with this article that there isn't really room to comment fully. To touch on major points:

            1) On Culture: "Asians" make up a large and diverse group of people. Putting all people of "Asian" descent in one massive group is both stupid and bigoted. Asia is a vast area including well over a hundred countries and many more languages and cultural traditions. If Macleans cannot distinguish this, I suggest travel, reading, and overall education.

            2) On the level of Citizenship: Canadian Asian people are CANADIANS. Singling them out is an attack on their Citizenship and an attack on their equal place in Canada. It's unacceptable. It's profoundly insulting. To generalize about an ethnic group strips individuals of their identity and creates "accepted" stereotypes. It restricts individual freedom. It promotes social inequality. It IS racism.

            3) On Racism: The most disgusting and dangerous thing about this article is that is creates a platform for closet racists to "express" their bigotry in some sort of seemingly "legitimate" way. It allows them to say "oh, 'I'm not a racist, but you know Macleans said..." Your article serves as "permission" to generalize, categorize and ultimately demean people of Asian heritage. You give license to say: "I'm just quoting, Macleans. That's a respected national magazine, right?" (maybe no longer) Highly irresponsible of you. Of all people you should know the power of the pen, the damage it can cause, and the responsibility you have in this regard. To hide behind the idea that "Oh, we didn't want US-style quota systems migrate here, to Canada" is pathetic. Do you really think you're fooling anybody?

            4) On Academics: To subtly (or not so subtly) imply that Asian academic success is somehow "less than" White academic success is really disgusting. And, frankly, somewhat sinister. You further imply that "Asians" are somehow socially inept and unable to behave in some socially "appropriate" manner that your article of course can't really define. One can only conclude that you'd have to be "White" to understand how to act properly. Are you people getting it? Have you lost your minds?

            5) On contribution: Canadians of Asian heritage as well as international students have made HUGE contributions to Canada-- from the railway (at great human cost) to a former Governor General to countless academics, business people etc. the list is endless. When I was a student, some of my most inspiring profs were Canadians of Asian heritage. Not to mention friends and classmates who helped TEACH me things and HELPED me academically and socially. Your article is a body-blow to all the contributions Canadians of Asian heritage have already made as well as those contributions yet to be made.

Are you going to complain if a Canadian of Asian heritage who studied at U of T cures cancer? Helps single mothers? Or the poor? Or fights global warming? Or fights for Women's equality? Battles for human rights?

There is SO much more to be said.

Finally, I think, you need to offer all Canadians and apology, and an extra-special apology to Canadians of Asian heritage and students from abroad of Asian heritage. Your article it toxic and racist.更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
