FYI., My sample letter to MPs in general, feel free to use:

本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛Dear Sir or Madam,

You might have heard about an article that Maclean's magazine published recently, titled 'Too Asian?'

Like many people, I am outraged by this article. This article implies that there are too many students of Asian ethnicity in the top Canadian universities, and is suggesting that 'efforts in the U.S. to limit enrollment of Asian students in top universities may migrate to Canada'.

As one of the many signatories to the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racism, in 1969, Canada agreed to the following definition of racial discrimination found in Article 1:

"Racial discrimination shall mean any distinction, exclusion, restriction, or preference based on race, descent, or national or ethnic origin which has the purpose or effect of nullifying or impairing the recognition, enjoyment, or exercise, on an equal footing, of human rights and fundamental freedoms in the political, social, cultural, or any other field of public life."

I believe Maclean's article is racially biased, is inciting racism and is suggesting racial discrimination against students of Asian heritage. Also the article is beyond being ridiculous in blaming these students for their hardworking and their success.

In my opinion,

- Most, if not all, of the so-called 'Asian' students are Canadian citizens or permanent residents, thus they have the same right of education as do the other Canadian citizens and permanent residents;
- These students are competing with other students under the same rules;
- These students are successful in the schools and universities because they work harder;

If our society truly value equal opportunity for all citizens, then race, skin color and ethnicity should not matter. As long as the participants are competing on the same ground and following the same fair rules, there should not be a problem.

Maclean's attempt to stoke the fear of Asians on campus is a retread of the infamous Yellow Peril scaremongering W5 episode “Campus Giveaway” which was shown on CTV in 1979.

I believe as a Member of Parliament serving people of diversified ethnic backgrounds, you must have a firm belief in making our country a place where all people will enjoy equal rights and freedoms, disregard of race and ethnicity.

I believe you understand how dangerous the situation is when a mass media like Maclean's is promoting racism and racial discrimination.

Hereby, I suggest you as a Member of Parliament to speak on behalf of the people that you are representing, to condemn Maclean's for its wrong-doing in promoting racism and racial discrimination, and to request Maclean's to make an comprehensive and unqualified public apology to all Canadians, and to request Maclean's immediate retraction.

I also suggest you to urge the parent company of Maclean’s, Rogers, to review Maclean’s stonewalling on making an apology.

Thank you!

Respectfully,

        Letter to MP Olivia Chow

        Dear Ms Chow:

        You have probably heard about the outrage over the Maclean's magazine article "Too Asian" which appeared online on Nov 10. 2010.

        It implies that many students of Asian ethnicity overpopulate the best university campuses (by studying hard) and thus advocates quotas according to race.

        Their attempt to stoke the fear of Asians on campus is a retread of the infamous Yellow Peril scaremongering W5 episode “Campus Giveaway” which was shown on CTV in 1979.

        Admission to Canadian taxpayer-supported post secondary institutions is by academic achievement. Students who have worked hard have earned their place in class. That is the right approach to be competitive in the global economy.

        As an MP whose website celebrates the richness in your riding with translations in Portugeuse and Chinese and students who attend the "Too Asian" University of Toronto, you understand how high the stakes are if Maclean's convinces enough people to abandon meritocracy.

        I ask you as a member of Parliament of a very diverse riding to condemn the inaccuracies in the published article and the refusal of Maclean's to make an immediate retraction and offer a sincere apology.

        I also ask you to urge the parent company of Maclean’s, Rogers, to review Maclean’s stonewalling on making an apology.

        Respectfully,

        Letter to Prime Minister of Canada

        To the Prime Minister of Canada:

        Sir, you may know the outrage over the Maclean's magazine article "Too Asian" which appeared online on Nov 10. 2010.

        It implies that many students of Asian ethnicity overpopulate the best university campuses (by studying hard) and thus advocates quotas according to race.

        Their attempt to stoke the fear of As...ians on campus is a retread of the infamous Yellow Peril scaremongering W5 episode “Campus Giveaway” which was shown on CTV in 1979.

        Admission to Canadian taxpayer-supported post secondary institutions is by academic achievement. Students who have worked hard have earned their place in class. That is the right approach for Canada to be competitive in the global economy.

        Your government has also committed time, effort, and funding in international aid and diplomacy to bringing foreign students and researchers to our country. What kind of welcome does "Too Asian" give? As far as I am concerned, it has set back your efforts.

        Sir, on Nov 8, you condemned anti-Semitism - "Anti-Semitism has gained a place at our universities, where at times it is not the mob who are removed, but the Jewish students under attack. " We stand with you in that and ask that you condemn the exact same rhetoric, an anti-Asian sentiment in "Too Asian". The Maclean's article grants legitimacy to the bullying and harassment and belittling of Asian students working hard to build a better Canada.

        I urge you as Prime Minister of a Canada with a very diverse richness to condemn the inaccuracies in the published article and the refusal of Maclean's to make an immediate retraction and offer a sincere apology.

        I also ask you to urge the parent company of Maclean’s, Rogers, to review Maclean’s stonewalling on making an apology.

        sample Ltr to Rogers - cancelling cell service and boycotting until Maclean's retracts

        WHAT I SENT TO ROGERS. PERSONAL DECISION AS A CONSUMER TO BOYCOTT

        Hello, Rogers,

        I am notifying you of my cancellation of Rogers cellphone service and therefore will not be buying any products or services and neither will my friends & family until you apologize for the inaccurate, inflammatory, and insulting article "Too Asian" in Maclean's mag...azine and retract it..

        In the comments section and in blogs all over Canada and in the Chinese-language media are people expressing their outrage at this failure of journalistic integrity. Until Rogers retracts and apologizes, we will not support any of your magazines, The Shopping Channel, mobile phones, cable, internet, walkin stores, Rogers Centre Dome.

        And we will not be consumers of any companies associated with Rogers such as Aeroplan and Apple. I am in the process of informing Apple to not expect any downloads on iTunes or app purchases until they dissociate themselves from a corporate partner, Rogers, that stonewalls apologizing for publishing offensive material..

        We want a retraction and we want an apology from Rogers.

      • Thank you very much.
(City Councilor)
(Legislative Assembly of Ontario, Current MPPs):
          • 要查找多伦多市政府议员City Councilor,请用这个链接 (Members of Toronto City Council ), 根据自己所在的选区Ward找到自己的Councilor:
    • My MP reply! I will send a mail to him

      Dear Mr. Bryon Wilfert

      I and my wife are Canadian citizen and living in Richmond Hill

      You might have heard about an article that Maclean's magazine published recently, titled 'Too Asian?' and I hope you can support Olivia Chow's motion condemning “Too Asian” article
