From my point of view, you either go with cheap SLR with bundled lens to just try out or directly go to D300s and 17-55 (or 24-70) directly, that's the one you can stick to APS-C without going to full frame. Something in between doesn't make sense

For canon, they simply don't have good APS-C lens. So either buy cheap SLR with bundle lens or full frame 5D mk2 with L lens. 7D is meaningless.
只能用于APS-C的Canon EF-S IS USM 17 - 55 mm F/2.8相当于全幅的24-70mm f/2.8L。价格不菲。

but it's still not L lens, at least build quality wise, no weather proof. But Nikon 17-55 is a totally different story, it has excellent optical/build quality. so I would say for Canon you have to go to full frame eventually,

Canon机身和镜头选择确实象地道战。Nikon选择确实简单一些。 这有点象Intel vs AMD芯片。毕竟Canon公司的市值是Nikon的7倍，产品有更多的分枝。
