No.7 is San Diego; No 9 is San Francisco; No.19 portland, ore. LA nowhere.

For LA, you can check this link to see which area have less homicides. And overall from Jan1,2007 to right now , 5- yr, there are almost 4000 homicides

I have two offers from a Los Angeles office and another office in Portland Orgeon. Have been struggling which location is better. I like Portland area for its cooler weather, more foilage, and most importantly short distance to Vancouver BC and affordable housing. But I don't like many old residential areas in the city. I like Los Angeles for its sunny and warm weather, big Chinese community like Toronto, but it's far from Canada and expensive to buy a house here.

Some born in LA and lived in LA for long time before. All of them told me SF first, then SD then LA without any hesitation.

I know what you mean. I have been living here for the last 5 months, although I just received permenant stafff offer just now. I work and live in Pasadena area. Pasadena area is a very neat area.
