@BC

Didn't work out.

The border officer was super nice. He was willing to give the TN to me without TN letter as long as the employer is willing to send him anything in writing to specify how long the employment will be. I''m going to tell the employer I don't want the offer anymore. It's not worth the time and efforts.

I'm not in IT which is the easy field to locate jobs. But I do realize it's a waste of time to educate employers like this. As government agencies they don't mind spending taxpayers' money to go through the hiring process again instead of being a tiny bit flexible. They do not seem to understand: stating in the offer letter that the employment will be up to three years does not prohibit either party from terminating the employment relationship anytime at will. I've learned to avoid all the government employers at any cost.

      • I wrote it. But they said they are not going to sign.
As a government agency, they do not want to assume any legal responsibility without checking it out with a lawyer first. And HR policy forbids this lawyer service. They are really firm on this. Otherwise I would lose the offer. I just want to know who ever got TN with the offer letter, but no TN letter.
          • Sadly the offer is standard.
No TN category. Only starting date without specifying how long the employment will be. It's a full time permanent position. To avoid possible lawsuits all the government standard offers do not specify the employment period. I will have to go try my luck at the border.

                • ur writing in english is excellent
                  • Thank you thank you. You make me feel better..
                  • My job title falls under one category of TN profession list.
TN officer had no problem with the job profession. All he wanted was the specification of the employment time period. There is also a starting date on the standard offer. The officer wanted either an ending date, or an indication in writing that "we need this employee for up to 1, 2 or 3 years". That's the only thing that's missing and HR is not willing to provide that.

The officer's willingness to cooperate and the HR's stupidity are both beyond my expectation. I was in fear of the possibility of being grilled at the border. He didn't care if I had TN letter. He focused on the essence of the required information and told me he can't give me TN due to the lack of that one piece of information.
hr自己都承认"this is a learning process for me"因为他们开始连tn是怎么回事都不知道。
                  • There are people who got TN without the offer indicating the employment period before.
TN officer told me he will not accept my application based on insufficient information provided. He read the notes out to me while typing comments on his computer. He told me I deserve a better employer and I should go back to him for TN again once I find a new employer. LOL when I get a new job in the future I will still go for him.
                    • Other than the standard offer letter, the HR actually did give me something extra
: a detailed job description in their letter head. The standard offer letter doesn't use the word "permanent". Otherwise I wouldn't even go to try because TN has to be temporary. But in Canadian term the job is "permanent" because it's not a contract job.
