E.I. is provided by the government. I think if you are eligible, you can get EI for six months. I might be wrong about the time frame.

In order to be eligible for E.I.:

1. You must have paied the premium when you are working. It's a certain percent of your monthly payment. 2~3% if you are a full-time employee.

2. You lose your job because you are laid off or due to some other reason (like move to another city, sex harassment)

3. You obtained ROE (record of employment) from your HR department, and apply E.I. from HRDC branch.

4. You receive E.I. payment from HRDC for the following six month, until you launch another job.

The above info is very rudimental. Please refer to HRDC web site for more.

    • Employment Insurance. that is, in case you are laied off after xxx hours of working, you can apply for EI and get 55% of your monthly income paid to you while you are looking for your next job.
      • You have to pay a mandatory premium for each hour worked to insure yourself in the case of laid off.
        • ah, yes. If you are working as a full-time employee, everything will be taken care of by the payroll system. but if you are self-employed, it gets qutie complicated here.

      • so it means that while anyone start to work he/she shuold apply the EI? to the employer of just any Insurance Company? THANX!!!
