The voltage across the main entry from the hydo to your house is 220v, not 110v. Your calculation is not right. If your main entry is 100A and

本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛If your main entry is 100A , it is no problem to add a 40A load to the panel for your basement stove in terms of power capability. The only problem for you is the panel--not enough space.

So, you have to change the panel. The following is an example to how to do it in a professional way:

1, Call a contractor ask for a free(?) estimate
2, SIgn a contract (He/She will do the rest, so I don't have to talk about that)
3, Check all the appliances and ligh tings
4, Pay him/her (about $1000)

The following is an exmple how to do it in DIY way (it is a practrical way)

1, Call a lisenced electrician to check your panel and main entry cable, He/She should make sure that your main entry cable is for 100A
2, Call your local hydro to disconnect the power (normally free of charge) and set a time for reconnection
3, Go to Home Depot or other supplier to buy a panel set (panel and circuit breakers) and other accessories. That will cost you about $230
4, Change the panel and some of the circuit breakers
5,Check all the appliances and ligh tings
6, Pay the electrician (about $350)
