Ask dealer or your car maker, not all models 改装. if need 改装, or your car is more than 5 years old, it is better to sell in CANADA.

My husband imported our Honda Civic into US. Paper work is very simple. The benefit to import is he had a car to drive at the first few weeks when he is new to the place. But the bad side is he can sell the Honda Civic with a much higher price in Canada than that in US.

Thanks Lili!

Same question here!I try to drive in with TN and use it for the first few months. Then drive back to my wife (she will go to US later) and buy a new one at US. During these few months I don't want to import it to US.
Please share me your information. Thanks.

Good point! Haven't thought about insurance coverage thing. I guess my Monnex doesn't provide temp coverage at US - so maybe I have to change to RBC?

you need to check with your insurance company. Ours only cover 30 days. Car insurance in US is much cheaper, there is no point to keep Canada one if you are moving to US.

I will ask him the detail tonight and answer here. Overall, as I remember, he got some paperwork from Honda, and the US border stamped on your paper work, then he changed his plate in Boston

He called US Honda and faxed the CIVIC details, then US Honda gave him a piece of paper which shows the car is complized with US Standard. At the border to enter US, the boarder officer signed his paper. He showed RMV when he regisered the plate in US.

My case, last year by Christmas, 02' Mazda MPV to San Diego.doc: car registration, dealer bill of sale, manufacture’s letter (go to mazda website just send a request, the letter very clearly stated that this car satisfy US....) and forms 7501( got from border).
At DMV, require smog check $60, other $300, insurance is cheap <300/6 mon

Thanks “elecskunk” to share your case.

You probably need to get a letter from the maker of your car (it's Toyota in my case) saying that your car meets the requirement of United States, and show the letter to the officer when you enter the border.
